Debating

The school’s very first debating team were recently presented with medals and a plaque for their great achievements in the Primary Debating Ireland competition. This was presented to them by Mr. Harry Knox, the director of the Waterford Teacher’s Centre. The team who worked very hard throughout the competition were Abbie Galgey, Máiréad Butler, Éimear O’ Mahoney, Sarah O’ Connor, Emily Kelly and Luwanda Osho. They won a number of debates in order to become the county champions for Waterford. They then went on to represent Waterford in a debate against Wexford in the regional final where the both teams gave fantastic arguments and left the judges with a very difficult decision to make. The Wexford team won on this occasion and we wish them all the best in their future debates! The school are extremely proud of the girls on the team who worked so hard throughout the competition.  The boys and girls of 6th class were also a fantastic help and support to the team and were behind them the whole way. Well done everyone!image (2)

They are now preparing for their next debate against a Wexford school, with the motion, Social networking sites do more good than bad (proposing). The six debaters, Mairéad Butler, Emily Kelly, Eimear O’ Mahony,  Abbie Galgey, Lawanda Osho and  Sarah O’Connor have put great effort into preparing for these debates, along with the help of all the 6th class student who also played a huge part. A lot of thanks from all 6th class students to all of the teachers that helped and to the Glór na Mara Chairperson, Olivia O’ Brien who all played a big part in our debating!
