A week ago our teacher mrs Dreelan got us ready to go on a nature walk. She handed us out sheets wich we had to fold in to little handy bags. When we went outside we looked at all the different leaves and picked them off the ground. We went around the basketball court. We found a horse chestnut tree everyone ran and searched the ground for fallen conkers. Only some people got conkers but we only needed 1 or 2. We found [alder] [hazel] [beech] [birch] [oak] [holly] and [field maple]. It was fun we didn’t have enough time to go to the back by the little garden pathway. But it was such great day with all our leaves we have a realy big project in our class room. We hope you enjoy our school blog.

As part of our geography work this year, Rang 1 have sent two helpers out into the world to find out about new places and to meet new people. And the great thing is – they can fit in an envelope! Meet Flat Matthew and Flat Jim.

Matthew and Jim

Jim is travelling around Ireland, while Matthew has been sent out to travel the world.  We’ve been using our contacts on twitter to find places for them to go – Jim headed up to St. Colman’s NS, Co. Mayo for his first trip, while Matthew was dispatched to Mrs. Obach’s class in Manitoba in Canada.  They’ve taken scrapbooks with them to document their journeys, but we’re also keeping track of their travels on our own blog – http://adventuresofmatthewandjim.blogspot.ie/.  We can’t wait to see what kind of interesting adventures they’ll get up to between now and June!

The Havishams

The Havishams

One day an author named Martin Brennan came to our classroom. And he wrote a book called the Havishams. He explained the story and demonstrated on how he writes a story. He said to start a story with a bang. Like how he told us about jimmy the lepracaun and the lazer robot with rocket boosters. And how to express are characters like if it was a teenager from LA she would be like “OMG I WAS WATCHING THE X-FACTOR AND IT WAS LIKE OMG !!!!!!!!!!”

On Monday we went to w.i.t to do some maths. The man showed us how to do some tricks with cards and some paper. People came up to do some tricks with cards and Roisin came up and had to solve a card trick. He told us a story about a sad camel.

On the way back Oskar and Tadhg were singing banana bus on the bus.

Last Monday we went to W.I.T for maths week. There was a man that came from England and he was telling us about the sad camel story. He showed us a lot of card tricks. He was telling us about degrees on a compass and we had to turn north south west east and guess how many degrees we were moving. From north to east is 90 degrees and we had so much fun.

One day we got coloured paper ,string ,tape and a topper to make a parachute. We stood on a chair, let it go and it broke. Then we fixed it and Ms Dreelan hung our parachute on a long piece on string and it fell on top of Laurie.
By Aoife & Stephen

A few weeks ago we made parachutes we used 4 pieces of string, colured tissue paper, sticky tape and a pen because we didn’t want ours to fall and break. We had to put holes in the tissue paper so we could fit the string in the tissue paper we had to tape the string to the tissue paper so it wouldn’t fall out we had so much fun!

One day we made parachutes with paper, string, tape and we used our rubbers.First it did not work but then after it worked really well.It was really easy to make too . And It was really fun to make. And then we jumped onto our chair and threw it as high as we could throw it and it came down really slow.first we took paper and taped them together and we taped our rubber to the string.
AUTHORS: CIAN,NAOMI,LEO.

WELL 2 WEEKS AGO WE MADE PARACHUTES IN CLASSROOM. WE MADE THEM OUT OF PAPER STRING,TAPE. IT WAS REALLY EASY TO MAKE IT .WE STARTED OFF WITH THE PAPER AND TAPE. WE PUT THE TAPE ON THE STRING AND STUCK IT ON TO THE PAPER. AFTER A WHILE WE WERE DONE. WELL LUKE DONE A FLOWER AND CIRCLES AROUND THEM. THANK YOU FOR READING THIS BYE!!!!

BY KHADIJAT AND LUKE

Parachutes are very fun and easy to make myself laurie butler and ryan walsh .Struggled to make a parachute but soon enough finished it it looked great. What you need to make your very own parachute is a paper bag/tape/string/action figure/sissors but for our experiment we used a rubber you can use anything as long as it is not really heavy .First you blow in your paper bag to make room you then cut 4 small holes in each corner of the paper bag now use your string and put the strings in the 4 holes tape them to the paper bag you now have a paper bag with 4 strings hanging out of each of the 4 corners you now put an action figure at the bottom of the 4 strings you tape the strings to the action figure we hope you found this helpful we guess you all ready know what to do next …………… go experiment with your parachute please leave a comment and tell us if it worked we hope you enjoy our school blog.
