For the last few weeks, people all over the world have been celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year. Inspired by these celebrations, the students of Fourth class decided to carry out some research projects about Chinese history and culture. They worked together and spent a long time finding their information and presenting it to their friends. One student even created a mini replica of the Great Wall of China! As the festival comes to an end, we would just like to say a big ‘Happy Lunar New Year’ to all of our friends in Glór na Mara!

We wrote books for Ms. Halley’s Junior Infants. They are reading a book called ‘The Picnic’ so we wrote books for them using the words they know. The Junior Infants read the books we made, and then helped us to colour the pictures we drew.

The books are hanging on the wall in our classroom, and we are really proud of all our work!

We designed and drew machines. We collected things we would normally put in our recycling bin such as cardboard boxes and plastic bottles. Then we made our machines.

Some of us worked with a partner and some of us worked by ourselves. Look at what we made: a robot, a jet pack, a dog, a candy machine, a rocket, airplanes, cars and much more!

Ms. McCarthy’s 6th class came over to visit and told us some interesting facts about the Seahorse. They also showed us how to make mindmaps. Using mindmaps, we were able to write down all the information we know about the Seahorse. You can read all we have written about the Seahorse on the wall outside our classroom.

One of us also did a project on the Seahorse.

We made boats using marla. It was hard at first to get our boats to float but, after a few attempts, we managed it. Some boats were even able to carry people and some cargo!
